    Description

These sturdy, round containers are made of translucent polypropylene plastic.  Each will hold 16 fl. oz. and has a removable, snap on plastic lid.  The lid has a ½” diameter hole cut into it.  The hole is located 1” out from the center of the lid and 1 ½ “ in from the lid’s edge.  The containers are 4 ½” wide at the top and are 3” tall.  They taper down to a smaller diameter of 3 ½ “ at the bottom of the container.
Hobbyists who grow African violets by the wick watering method use these containers as self-watering reservoirs.  Your plant with wick can set on the lid with the plant’s wick extending through the hole in the lid down into the water (with fertilizer if you wish) in the reservoir.  The pot does not touch the water.  Only the wick touches the water.   Growers who use this method find that a typical sized violet will be watered sufficiently for approximately 2 weeks (or more) depending on the plant size and stage of growth.
Enthusiasts who are unfamiliar with the wick watering method should be aware that typical store bought potting soil would be too heavy to use with this method.  It would hold too much water for too long.  The best soil is a mix of peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite, or you can mix a traditional soil 50/50 with perlite to lighten it up.
Detailed, illustrated instructions are included with this offering giving information on how to grow African violet by the wick watering method.  One of the photos with this listing shows a pot with wick setting on a reservoir.  The fertilizer added to the water has made the water look blue.  This listing is for the six reservoirs and lids only.  No wicks, potting mix, pots, fertilizer, or African violets are included. The playing card and the ruler in the photos are for size comparison and are not part of the listing.
