ILFORD SWITZERLAND – THE END OF AN ERA
Did you know that Ilford produced the highest resolution color microfilm (365 LP/MM) EVER made by any film company?
As most of you film enthusiasts are probably aware, Ilford Switzerland – home of some of the best color photo papers ever produced – filed for bankruptcy in June 2013 and was resolved.
The balance of their paper, inkjet, and chemical stock has been sold off over the past 12 months and WILL NEVER AGAIN BE PRODUCED (with the exception of the chemicals to support the recently sold paper inventory)!
But there is one extraordinary film product that most people are unaware Ilford ever produced: ILFORD (HIGH DEFINITION) COLOR MICROFILM with a 365 LP/MM (originally a Cibachrome product, prior to Ilord’s purchased of Cibachrome in the 1970’s from Ciba-Geigy)...because it was never made commercially available! The limited supply of ILFORD (HIGH DEFINITION) COLOR MICROFILM is being offered for sale on a first come, first serve basis.
The BALANCE OF THE INVENTORY STOCK being sold is in 35mm X 100ft (30m) double perforated rolls of film. ILFORD (HIGH DEFINITION) COLOR MICROFILM offers a staggering 365 LP/MM – yes that’s not a typo! This is THE HIGHEST RESOLUTION FILM EVER PRODUCED anywhere in the world. Compare this to the no-longer available Kodachrome film, with 100 LP/MM resolution...less than ONE-THIRD the resolution of the ILFORD (HIGH DEFINITION) COLOR MICROFILM!
The color saturation also exceeds the quality of Kodachrome.
The film is balanced for Tungsten 3200K lighting with a 1 ASA film speed.
In addition to the stunning high-def 365 LP/MM resolution that produces more detail and vibrantly brilliant colors than any other film ever made, ILFORD (HIGH DEFINITION) COLOR MICROFILM also has an amazing ARCHIVAL SHELF-LIFE OF 500 YEARS!
Being such an extremely high resolution film, most of it was used in technical microfilm projects that required color film such as museum art, architectural drawing, advertising design, etc.
P-5 chemicals are still available for purchase for processing Ilfochrome color microfilm and will be until all products, films and papers have been exhausted. Pro Archive in Switzerland, (Mr. Daniel Fluck is contact person) still manufacturers P-5 chemicals, and easily available.
